We have finally entered the world of baby food. After a recent setback with some mislabeled cinnamon rolls, his little tummy was all cleared up and ready to eat! We can only eat plain foods (no blends) and have to stick with only one for a week to make sure he doesn't have an allergic reation. Last week was sweet potatoes - didn't go so well. He didn't really seem to like them, but at least he wasn't allergic. Last night, as you can see above, we tried butternut squash. He didn't really seem all that crazy about it either.
So ladies (and gentlemen too, I guess). I am looking for any suggestions to get this boy to eat and like it! I feel like I'm going into battle everytime I feed him. It is very exhausting. And I have to completely undress him because it is so messy. I usually end up dirty, too, but don't worry, I'm keeping my clothes on! Would love some comments from you wise parents...

Libby loved pears! He's so cute!
How could you be preparing for battle with THAT face.....I'd place my bets on him every time....if for no other reason than you would melt from his adorable-ness. Man, he is such a cutie.....even with the squash.
My only advice would be patience. Bryce didn't like food at first. I think it takes time for them to get used to the different texture. You'll find something he'll eat eventually.
I also remember reading and successfully trying with Bryce a particular technique. If you just put a spoonfull of food up close to his mouth, touching his lips, instead of sticking it in his mouth. Sometimes, he can get some in thinking that he needs to suck. If I remember correctly, mom did that with Bryce and I followed suit until he was used to it.
I guess it might be worth a try. If it doesn't make sense all typed out, call me.
amy here
hey, i dont know anything! we dont even own a highchair, so caia sits in my lap. when i tried to put her in the bumbo to feed her, she could move alot more, so if we ever did buy a highchair (which i dont think we will) we will buy one with a "5 point harness" so she cant move around much.
i strip her down too!!!!
sorry slange!
i'll love reading what people say though as im looking for ideas too!
have you mixed the food with rice cereal? i know you said you cant do mixed foods, but he can do rice cereal, right? i mix my foods with the rice cereal and it makes it a little thicker, which makes it easier for her to hold in her mouth instead of it running out! those level 1 foods are runny!
Is he teething? Troy won't eat solids if he's teething.
Those eyes are so captivating!
Like Shana said ~ Patience is key! He will eventually aquire the taste. The textures and whole process of moving solids through his mouth is all new. We use fruits as a "dessert" and a treat after the main course is done. It also helps if they can hold a small toy in their hand ~ I found that distracts them from trying to grab at the spoon and bowl....
Also, once he can do more than one at a time, you can sneek something that he's not so fond of in between bites of a favorite....
I'm feeling for you! Tonight Kate was spitting whole mouthfuls of food out just to play with it ~ YUK!
Thoughts and prayers coming your way!
Love ya!

I was gonna suggest the rice cereal to make it thicker, too (that is if he can have rice cereal). Also, don't give up on something that he doesn't like once. Even grown ups aquire tastes for things. Ken didn't use to eat vegetables, but I kept feeding them to him and now he does...LOL. Oh yeah-you don't like veggies either, do you? Did I remember that right? No, wait it's mixed foods-like casseroles, right?
On a side note-the big van is gone. I actually miss it. We are talking about driving cross country to Yellowstone this summer and the big, red van would be perfect. Only have a mini van and a car, now.
love you,
Terri
I don't really have any advice. Other than what Shana said and that is to be patient. He is adorable.
Dito on all the advice. Just like every other stage, patience is the key. He is a cutie!!
I will give you advice I wish I had followed--- give them something 10 or more times before you give up trying to get them to eat a particular food! We gave up too soon and now we have a picky eater in our daughter!! OH, the STURGGLES!! I wish I had been more patient.
So, there is something to trying many times with something he won't eat the first 2 or 3 times. I SOOOO wish we had done that and life would be a whole lot smoother come dinner time at our house!
He does have the most beautiful eyes!! I will be praying for your struggles.
Love,
Cyndi
